Can eat potatoes but only the reds and no skins, no nuts or seeds (tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes and so on), our friends wife made her hubby a PP and J sandwich the chunky kind and her ended up in the hospital!!! My hubby about 8 months ago thought that’s what he had and those are a few things I can remember that they said were nono’s I’m sure there is more. Best of luck:)

  5. Lose the waste, lose the weight

When my hubby had diverticulitis, then put him on a low fiber diet for several months. That meant nothing with seeds in it, no raw veggies, no cooked veggies with the skin still on etc. Along with the low fiber, he was not supposed to eat more than 3 ounces of meat a day, and none of the meat was supposed to be red meat.

After it cleared up, they put him on a high fiber diet but he is still limited on red meat – a couple of times a week.

I really think it varies depending on how bad the diverticulitis is. Your FIL needs to call his doctor’s office and get more info. They should have given him a menu with foods that are and are not acceptable.

    Good Luck!

  7. Attention: Are You Constipated and Bloated

I have it too. Some doctors warn to not eat small nuts like sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, etc,… as they may get trapped in the colon and then cause an infection. Also, no corn. Your system doesn’t digest the hulls. Eat high fiber. It makes it easier to digest things. Look on the web. There is a lot of information on it. Believe me, I know the pain when you have problems with it. Diverticulosis is the disease, diverticulitis is when you have problems with it. When the pain starts in the lower left abdomen, call the doctor. It only gets worse. Usually they put you on antibiotics so it doesn’t get infected. Good luck!!!
